I’ve always had a ‘how does that work’ inquisitive mind so have been making and tinkering since I was knee-high to a grasshopper.

Engineering fascinated me especially steam locomotives and military vehicles, so was forever building models steam engines, rolling stock, cars and for some unknown reason, Land Rovers from bits of plastic and empty beer cans (thanks Dad)!

Finding solutions to problems and working out new and better ways of doing things has become a real passion of mine that uses all my past experiences.

A prime example being when a few years back a viral infection robbed me of all my natural hearing, but thanks to the marvels of technology and my own determination to find solutions, I now have a cochlear implant and have found other tech that have helped me back into the world of sound. My daughters think it’s pretty cool – they call me their ‘cyborg dad’! They’ve both flown the nest recently but somehow, they still manage to keep me busy. I am super proud of how they are venturing into their own exciting fields of structural biology and sustainable materials design, no less!

Striking a healthy work-life balance is so important, when I’m not busy with work or with my girls, I can be found exploring the canals, local heritage railway and foothills of the Pennines.

Always happy to have a chat or brew and if I can help you, that’s even better. Drop me a line and let’s talk.
